Andrea Nóvoa

Andrea Novoa original

Assistant Professor, Imperial College London

Dr. Andrea Nóvoa is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Aeronautics at Imperial College London since November 2025. Concurrently, she holds an Eric & Wendy Schmidt AI Fellowship at I-X. Dr. Nóvoa completed her Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of Cambridge in 2024 and her foundational work has been supported by prestigious awards, including the Amelia Earhart Fellowship in 2023. Her primary research specializes on developing real-time digital twins for engineering systems to enhance real-time monitoring, prediction, and control in engineering. Specifically, she develops robust computational methods that improve the understanding and management of complex dynamical phenomena such as thermoacoustic instabilities in low emission aeroengines, or aeroelastic instabilities in wind turbine blades.

By becoming a CoSeC Fellow, Dr. Nóvoa will serve as an ambassador for the Computational Science Centre for Research Communities within the fluid mechanics community. With the CoSeC Fellowship, she aims to maximize the scientific and community impact of her research on real-time digital twins. Her approach will be two-fold: (i) research dissemination through presenting her work at the Symposium on Machine Learning and Dynamical Systems & Differential Equations for Data Science (MLDS & DEDS) in Kyoto in February 2026, and (ii) community engagement by actively advocating for open-access, reproducibility and transparent research at the ERCOFTAC SIG 33 Workshop in May 2026, which she is organizing.

Interesting factBeyond her academic achievements, Andrea has a competitive background as a former Heptathlete. She consistently qualified for the Spanish National Championships throughout her high school and undergraduate years and was a member of the Cambridge University ‘Blues’ team during her postgraduate studies.
