CoSeC NPRAISE Projects

The National Platform for Research Technical Professionals on AI for Science and Engineering (NPRAISE) is one of the UKRI’s Strategic Technical Platforms (STPs), funded by UKRI through EPSRC and its central DRI programme, and is designed to improve the skills of Research Technical Professionals (RTPs) on AI for Science and Engineering (AI4SE) in the UK. NPRAISE is run by STFC Scientific Computing, which offers a dynamic and inclusive environment for professional growth.

In January 2026 CoSeC issued a funding call to identify RTPs that will benefit from training and up-skilling in AI. As a result of that call, and the subsequent funding panel meeting, we were able to select the following six projects:

Hybrid differentiable ML/AI-physics simulation capabilities in Firedrake

Ado Farsi

Imperial College London

CCP-DCM

GRaiNNs: Graph Neural Network Simulation for particulate processes

John Morrissey

University of Edinburgh

CCC-ParaSolS

AI Integrated High-Speed Imaging for Manufacturing

Evelien Zwanenburg

University of Warwick

CCPi

AI for Next-Generation Wave-Structure Interaction: Physics-Integrated Surrogates

Jessica Guichard

University of Plymouth

CCP-WSI

Spin- and Hessian-Enhanced MLIPs for Materials Modelling

Ava Dean

University of York

UKCP

Fourier Neural Operator for recovering high-frequency noise generated by turbulence

Zhong-Nan Wang

University of Birmingham

CCP Turbulence / UKTC

All projects will start on 1 September and over the following twelve month period these RTPs will be working with the STFC Scientific Computing department, and AI for Science theme, to improve their skills in AI and develop their projects and research.

We will be providing regular updates on progress via our usual channels.
